Hydrocephalus

Hydrocephalus is an excessive accumulation of fluid inside the brain, occurring when there is an imbalance in what is being produced and what is absorbed, causing enlarged ventricles and increased pressure inside the head. Cerebrospinal fluid is produced, circulated, and absorbed into the bloodstream and acts as a protective cushion around the brain and spinal cord. The fluid contains nutrients and proteins for nourishment, and disposes of waste products from surrounding tissue.

Common Symptoms:

Rapid increase in head circumference
Vomiting
Sleepiness
Downward deviation of the eyes
Seizures
